Is The Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate Actually Worth It?
Google has launched a new professional certificate program in cyber security, part of its wider range of professional certificates aimed at providing people with the skills they need to get into various industries. The cyber security program consists of eight courses, with Google claiming it can be completed in under six months with seven hours of work per day. The certificate is intended to provide an understanding of cyber security practices and their impact on organizations, as well as identifying common risks, threats, and vulnerabilities. The program also offers experience with Python, Linux, and SQL, with skills gained including Linux, Python programming, SIEM tools, intrusive detection systems, and SQL. The cost of the certificate is $49 per month, or a total of $294, with financial aid available for those unable to afford it. While Google claims the course is beginner level, some experts have suggested it is more intermediate, as most cyber security jobs require some work experience. However, feedback on previous Google professional certificates has been positive, with many students reporting they have helped them to secure jobs.
